How to Run Test Remote at Another Computer by Using the Fabasoft app.test AgentPermanent link for this heading

The Fabasoft app.test Agent allows you to record or run a test, a sequence or a use case remotely at another computer. This means the Fabasoft app.test Studio is installed at one computer and the Fabasoft app.test Client Adaptor is started at another one. You can use this for distributed testing (which means you can start several agents on several clients, e.g. one on a Microsoft Windows Vista platform and another one on an Ubuntu client).

For remote testing you have to install the Fabasoft app.test Agent at the computer where you want to execute or record the file (test, sequence or use case). The setup program is on the Fabasoft app.test DVD.

To start the Fabasoft app.test Agent, open the "Start" menu and select "Programs" > "Fabasoft app.test" > "Fabasoft app.test Agent".

If the Fabasoft app.test Agent is currently running, an icon is shown in the "Notification Area". If you click this icon, a menu is shown.

This menu has the following menu items:

  • "Set Port"
By clicking this menu item you can set the port to be used by the Fabasoft app.test Agent. A dialog is opened for setting the port. Enter the port the Fabasoft app.test Agent should use into the Port field. If you click "Change", the port is saved and the window closes. If you click "Close", the window closes without saving the new port.

If you want to find out which port is currently being used, just move the mouse pointer over the Fabasoft app.test Agent icon in the "Notification Area". The tool tip then displays the port currently used by the Fabasoft app.test Agent.
  • "Exit"
Clicking this menu item closes the Fabasoft app.test Agent.
  • "About Fabasoft app.test Agent"
Selecting this menu item displays information about the installed version of the Fabasoft app.test Agent.

In Fabasoft app.test you can define to use the Fabasoft app.test Agent when starting the Fabasoft app.test Recorder or the Fabasoft app.test Player. In the Fabasoft app.test Console Player you can also define to execute a test, sequence or use case remotely by using the Fabasoft app.test Agent. You can enter the name of the host where the Fabasoft app.test Agent is running as well as the port the Fabasoft app.test Agent should use for this test, sequence or use case.

If you enter a host name (and not localhost), the Fabasoft app.test Client Adaptor is started at the computer that is defined.

Furthermore, it is important (if you import and export files in your test) that you select the check box Transfer Documents for transfering all imported and exported files from the Fabasoft app.test Studio to the Fabasoft app.test Agent and the other way round.
