2017 October Release

WAI-ARIA InspectorPermanent link for this heading

WAI-ARIA (Web Accessibility Initiative - Accessible Rich Internet Applications) specifies how to increase the accessibility of web pages. The Fabasoft app.test WAI-ARIA Inspector extracts the WAI-ARIA elements of a web page to enable the developer or software quality engineer to evaluate the structure and semantic of the page. Hence the inspector provides a convenient way to discover accessibility shortcomings.

To be able to run the inspector a configuration file is needed. More information about configuration files can be found in chapter “How to Create a Configuration File for the Fabasoft app.test Console Player”.

Note:

  • Make sure that the Fabasoft Folio URL is fully specified, including the ax parameter (e.g. http://{~webserver~}/fsc/fscasp/content/bin/fscvext.dll?ax=COO.1.1001.1.32498).
  • The application type has to be BROWSER and the client type MICROSOFT_INTERNET_EXPLORER, GOOGLE_CHROME, MOZILLA_FIREFOX or APPLE_SAFARI.

Example

<?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-8'?>

<Config>
  <Run webserver='server.comp.com'

address='http://{~webserver~}/fsc/fscasp/content/bin/

fscvext.dll?ax=COO.1.1001.1.32498' applicationtype='BROWSER'
    clienttype='MOZILLA
_FIREFOX' />
</Config>

To run the inspector open a command line, change to Fabasoft app.test installation directory and run apptest-waiariainspector.jar. In the following example it is assumed that the path of the configuration file is "C:\config.ducx-config".

Example

cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Fabasoft\apptest\studio"

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin\java.exe"
-jar apptest-waiariainspector.jar -config:"C:\config.ducx-config"

The user interface of the Fabasoft app.test WAI-ARIA Inspector will be opened. Click “Start Browser”. The URL as defined in the configuration file is opened in the defined web browser and the WAI-ARIA tree nodes are shown in the inspector. You can use the web browser to reproduce your desired situation and then click the “Refresh” button (or press F5) in the inspector to refresh the nodes. Click on a node to get information about the assigned WAI-ARIA attributes.

The OuterHTML field shows the HTML of the selected tree node and the HTML field shows the HTML of the whole page. To copy the HTML source code you can use the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl + A and Ctrl + C.
